Old field or gray goldenrod grows easily in average to dry, well drained solis in full sun. Intolerant of full shade locations. Very tolerant of poor soils. Is only 60 cm tall.

Goldenrods have extremely high wildlife value. They are the single most beneficial flower species by supporting over 100 species of butterflies and moths as host plants and many specialist bees. They provide crucial late-season nectar of the highest quality. Monarchs need it to fuel their flight to Mexico and bees to prepare for hibernation. Birds love the seeds.

 

Growing conditions:

Among the 30 species of goldenrod in Ontario there is a 

perfect one for any garden condition. 

Even for tough spots, heavy clay or extremely dry areas.

Only Canada Goldenrod spreads aggressively.
